You know when people say “I have friends who do cool things”? Okay, well this past weekend was another reassurance of that statement. It’s one thing to be excited for your friends and their creative endeavors, but to experience it with them can truly influence your own creative genius. It’s that thing you needed to stimulate whatever thoughts or ideas you have into action.. hence why I’m finally writing after two months. Laurel Wong, author, artist, and curator of the FreeWomanProject showcased her business at HerMarket in Atlanta. The Free Woman Journal is a guided self care journal which stemmed from her own personal experiences with quotes from friends. Laurel created a space for women, especially in marginalized communities, to make vulnerability a little easier to experience. At Hermarket, it was super dope to see so many women, young and older gravitating towards her table, sharing stories, and buying her journal and self care stickers. Like wow, last year it was an idea, now look how things come into fruition. This is probably how it started for the rest of the ladies at HerMarket selling their vegan cookies, plant based body oils, candles, and natural makeup to name a few. Ideas don’t expire and time doesn’t really matter. Everything is in divine order.
